October events

The Philadelphia Campaign reenacting season is underway.

For October, the PA Navy has two events. On October 1st we will be at Cliveden House in Philadelphia for the Battle of Germantown. On October 8th we will be at the Independence Seaport Museum from noon to 4 p.m. for the Wooden Boat Festival. Also on October 8th, several members of the PSN we will participating in the annual Paoli Battlefield Illumination event.

July 2nd at the National Constitution Center

Wonderful day. Hot, but hey, it’s July.

A full contingent of PSN members and friends spent the day as part of the Revolutionary War encampment on the front lawn of the National Constitution Center. Also there were the 6th PA, 3rd PA, 11th PA and 1st NJ Loyalists. Thanks to our fabulous member, Mike K., who brought down his collection of repro 18th century naval gear — keg mines, leyden jars, instruments from the submersible “Turtle”, and his show stopping wall gun aka amusette.

There was a heavy stream of visitors throughout the day. We got to preach the gospel of the Pennsylvania State Navy and the Revolutionary War to folks from across the country as well as around the world. And why not. What better place to spend the 4th of July than in Philadelphia.

CBS3 was there taking still photos.

The event photos start at photo #32.

National Constitution Center

appealtoheavenCome down to the National Constitution Center and visit with the PSN.

We will be encamped on the front lawn along with members of the 6th PA and 3rd PA Lights. We will be portraying a recruiting party for the floating battery, Putnam. There will also be knot tying demos and lessons so you can learn to tie your own naval knots, an artillery demonstration with our mortar, Hellmouth, and a display of reproduction instruments associated with the colonial submersible, Turtle.

Colonial Plantation at Ridley Creek

Several members of the PSN attended the muster at the Colonial Plantation in Ridley Creek State Park, hosted by the 11th Pennsylvania. Fun day, good friends (especially the Donegal Rifles and the 1st PA Rifles), great tacticals. Definitely a must do.

The Pennsylvania Navy official schedule for 2011:

July 2: National Constitution Center

October 23: Battle of Red Bank

November 12-13: Fort Mifflin

We have a slew of ‘unofficial’ events on the schedule. Info on those will be posted as dictates.

Continental Line Meeting

This Saturday, January 8th, is the Continental Line and British Brigade annual National Meeting up in King of Prussia. See you there!

Patriot's Day

November 27th is Patriot’s Day at Brandywine Battlefield. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Several members of the PSN will be there masquerading as Royal Navy to support the battlefield. Come on out, enjoy the day and support Brandywine Battlefield!

Fort Mifflin 2010

Fort Mifflin

Another great event from the Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society. Thanks to Ed Kane and all the folks who fed us Saturday and Sunday.

We had a great time. That goes without saying. We bunked with the Continental Marines and are exploring brigading with them at events where we are not otherwise occupied with artillery. Makes perfect sense for Marines and the PA Navy to work together.

This was our last scheduled event for the season, but things do pop up unexpectedly and some unit members will attend The Christmas Crossing and the Battle of Trenton. Throughout the year we will continue with our support of endangered state battlefields and parks, particularly Brandywine Battlefield.

Photos & Video: Brandywine Creek
